Written interpretation – spoken language recorded in writing
Speech-to-text interpretation is a means of communication for individuals with hearing loss or deafness. Affected individuals who became deaf relatively late in life and understand sign language only to a limited extent might find it challenging to follow interpretation through sign language. However, they can usually follow the written language well. In speech-to-text interpreting, the speech is simultaneously transcribed and made available in written form, i.e., in captions. Depending on the equipment and the event, you will read the written interpreted language on your smartphone, tablet, or other devices. Another option is to show all participants the translated content on a screen. Real-time speech-to-text interpretation allows everyone to respond directly and, e.g., ask questions or put forward their arguments during discussions. You can also receive the transcript after the event if you wish.

Similar to sign language interpreting, there is a legal entitlement for speech-to-text interpretation in specific cases. Accordingly, the authorities can reimburse interpretation costs, i.e., specialized social services; we are happy to advise you on any questions you might have regarding the application process.

On-site or remote: written interpreters in action
Speech-to-text interpreters are used on-site or remotely. When working on-site, they use specific equipment to simultaneously take notes and output the text on the required devices. Online speech-to-text interpreters are connected to the conference to do their work. Making the conference terminology available to speech-to-text interpreters in advance is crucial for their preparation, e.g., setting up automatic text macros, ensuring that simultaneous speech-to-text interpretation runs even more efficiently.
